This interactive workshop will provide practical, usable information to get you started on effective test item writing. Through informative presentations, discussions, and small group exercises, participants will explore structural issues related to constructing quality mulitple-choice items for testing both basic science and/or clinical science content. Specifically, at the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:
1. Identify and correct multiple choice question (MCQ) flaws
2. Distinguish questions requiring simple recall from those requiring critical thinking and application of knowledge
3. Develop versatility in creating items for various curricular purposes
4. Review and write multiple choice questions covering various topic areas
